About the author:

Debashis Sarkar is credited to have introduced the application of lean principles to the service sector in Asia and India. When lean was unknown to service companies, he pioneered the application of 5S in a large financial organization as early as 2003. A thought leader on service lean, he has conceptualized the DEB-LOREX model which provides a holistic approach to transforming services companies using the principles of lean. Debashis Sarkar has catalyzed large number of operational excellence transformations. He currently holds a business improvement leadership role in India’s largest private financial services conglomerate - ICICI Bank. In addition, he was instrumental in scripting the quality roadmap for the bank and has designed its 5S, lean, process management, six sigma and other organizational excellence programs. Debashis’s work on lean has been encapsulated in two of his books which he has authored for ASQ Quality Press: (1) Lean for Service Organizations and Offices – A Holistic Approach for Achieving Operational Excellence (ASQ Quality Press, 2008), and (2) 5S for Service Organizations and Offices: A Lean Look at Improvements (ASQ Quality Press, 2006).

A seasoned improvement change leader, he has also written Quality in Business: 76 Mantras for Managers, (Sage, 2003). He is also the Chair of ASQ-Automotive Division – Team India.
